Inclusive Leadership

An interactive session for leaders, delivered by Creative Diversity Consultant, Elonka Soros.

As a sector, we in TV and film need diversity of thought, background and life-experience at all levels of our workforce to create authentic and compelling content.

But when you bring people together, with different perspectives, understanding and expectations of what a TV workplace is - there are bound to be tensions.

Leaders and managers in TV and film have often been hired for their creative talents and yet they bear the responsibility for ensuring that a diverse team is selected fairly and work together to deliver high-quality outputs in an environment that is respectful, inclusive and supports everyone to do their best work.

When we are stretched for time, the pressure is on, and our resources are limited how can leaders/managers go about setting expectations for an inclusive culture and walk the talk? And if things go wrong, you begin to experience tension or grievances are raised, how do you manage conflicts with fairness and confidence to set the team back on track?

In this interactive session led by Elonka Soros, participants will:

  • Discuss from a leader/manager perspective what is meant by inclusion in a diverse team and what that looks like, and consider the manager’s role in creating an inclusive team – and your own personal actions for leading by example.
  • Reflect on the challenges of managing diversity in the workplace with practical tactics for action in your day-to-day interactions with colleagues, and managing conflict (including fair selection and creating psychological safety for all).
  • Consider some of the ways colleagues may face exclusion and ways to mitigate that in the context of your own teams (recent discussions have included social and political polarisation, misogyny, homophobia, gender identity, racism, Anti Semitism and Islamophobia, cost of living and accessibility). The interactive nature of the session will allow us to address those areas most pressing for participants.
  • Acquire practical tips to build inclusion in teams through best practice, with true to life scenarios and discussion.

Participants are encouraged to bring current dilemmas to the session and explore solutions/share experiences.

This event is open to leaders of UK-based independent production companies and their employees and freelancers.
