The British TV industry is the envy of the world with creatives from a wide variety of backgrounds. The vitality of our industry is intrinsically linked to ensuring that it is a place where all voices contribute.
With more than 15% of the UK population estimated to be Neurodivergent (broadly meaning that their brain functions, learns and processes information differently), the television industry has a duty to represent the condition truthfully and authentically on screen.
This means thinking about how we portray Neurodivergent characters and contributors as well as how we create the teams that deliver that to the screen.
Our panel consists of senior industry figures with direct experience, either lived or through creating productions which have been recognised for their authenticity. They will discuss how to improve the representation of Neurodivergence on screen and will cover:
- the importance of neurodiverse (ND) voices
- the state of representation of ND on-screen and off-screen
- how to put teams together to get the ND/NT (neurotypical) balance right
- accommodations - what they are, how one asks for/provides them and what prevents this from happening
- money - is there systemic discrimination at play?
There will also be time allocated for Q&A.
