The Creative Diversity Network (CDN) is rolling out improvements to the Diamond Diversity Data Form for productions.
From Monday 24th March, 49 new choices under Ethnicity Options will go live, plus a search-as-you-type function to make it easier for people to accurately represent themselves.
In addition, new questions on Religion & Socio-Economic Background are being introduced to help the industry track and tackle issues like anti-Jewish racism, Islamophobia and the lack of working class representation in TV.
Diamond (DIversity Analysis MONitoring Data) was set up in 2016 by the UK broadcasters, in partnership with the CDN and Pact and established a standard system for reporting, monitoring and analysing diversity. Diamond measures the actual diversity of people working on a programme, on- and off-screen, and how an audience perceives the diversity of characters and contributors on-screen.
The CDN is constantly refining its data collection to keep it accurate, inclusive, and relevant. These updates are part of a long-term strategy to make sure Diamond remains the industry’s gold standard for diversity and inclusion data. Whilst more changes are coming in the next two years, the aforementioned were prioritised based on industry feedback, best practices and alignment with key statistical bodies like Ofcom and the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
